downtown Tallahassee

downtown Tallahassee, originally uploaded by freestone.

downtown Tallahassee
downtown tallahassee, florida, usa.
early November.

This street is the "semi-mall" street. that huge building in the background is the "New" capital building, Tallahassee is the capital city of Florida.
Late after noon, still warm.

I hear that this capital city is one of the few capital cities in the country where you can walk to the capital from downtown, as you can see, only blocks away.

Magnolias line the streets. there are dove birds of two kinds, here, that walk around on the sidewalks.

Most of the buildings are law offices, high end cafes, and lobbing offices.

date palm
a date palm planted in front of an old house that is now an office.

Tallahassee, florida, usa.

Interesting construction of those stairs, in the house, i think that this house was built around 1900, tairs was added later. not too apparent, here, but these stairs give to me a slight "Frank Lloyd Wright" feel.

the senior Prom

the senior Prom, originally uploaded by freestone.

the senior Prom
I live at georgia belle apartments for independant living, at tallahasssee, fla, usa.
Here on the wall of the elevator is a notice about a "senior prom" to be held at the university, Florida State.

Tis spring and prom time for the high schoolers.

For many seniors who grew up in the 20s to the 40s, the Prom was the very most important social event of the year, people have been "crushed for life" by being snubbed or not invited here.

Here at Georgia Belle, there have been, over the last sevearl years, at least two marriages, where two single seniors in the buliding, married, and now live togther.
Also, sort of out of my "eyesight" I hear rumors that sex is alive and well, here, the rumor mill works overtime cranking out all of the details!

Just because you are 70 or 80, does not mean that infatuation, love, and "dating" are over!!

I wonder how many men are taking Vigaria, here?!

a nice spring day at 30 degrees North

a nice spring day at 30 degrees North
late afternoon, here, Tallahassee, florida, usa. Spring comes early here, maybe even in late febuary, and lasts until early May. But at a price, over 100 days a year of 90 or higher!
These trees are mostly oaks, some are actually sheding their winter leaves now.

The temperature is about 80 degrees, now.

There is a bit of sadness here, for me: i live in a senior apartment
for independant living, there are about 160 people there. Last week there were two deaths in the building and yet a third in a hospital.
I read that spring is when the most people die. Maybe they feel closer to heaven, then! I know that I will go to heaven some day, while I wait, tallahassee is a nice place to live.

The southern mansion revealed.

The southern mansion revealed., originally uploaded by freestone.

The southern mansion revealed.
Yes, a real southern mansion dating from the late 1800s, now owned by a law firm, where they have their offices.
[takes a Huge income to restore a house like this!]

Tallahassee, florida usa.

Tallahassee had maybe only 5,000 people around 1920, some of the plantation owners lived in the city. Shades of slaves and servants. There is a plantation house a few blocks away that might have a fireplace in each room, maybe 20 fireplaces in all. Just imagine the work required to keep them all going on a cold day!

So here is a house, now an office, with the usual Azaleas out front.

I had a brief Imagination as I was placing this image in the groups.
I imagined how someone would have bought this house, years a go, to live in, a nice old southern house along a main street near
downtown. But this owner finds that he and his family now have Obligations to Meet: to live up to the calling that this house infers, to be of the Old Southern gentry class!
Anything that you own has Obligations, I read once..."never ever wear a hat with more character than you have"! Could this person live up this the obligations of this house?
--to give the parties?
--to rise up in social standings, with the costs that infers.
--to keep up the house, one cannot let it look frazzled!

One would almost have to *become* the image of what is infered
by what this house looks like!

Like of the freshman student might be "pulled" into become a good student, by the Architecture of the "Ivy League Gothic" buildings, all covered in ivy!

beauty amidst the urban clutter

beauty amidst the urban clutter, originally uploaded by freestone.

beauty amidst the urban clutter
yes beauty amidst the urban clutter. In any city there is so *much* of this clutter, wires, poles, signs, nothing in proportion, little of anything "pretty"!

Here is a cherry tree, the near-setting sun shines upon it. Tis almost lost in the clutter, most motorists may not even see it.

The 12th of March, nearly 80 degrees now. shirtsleeve weather.

Oh Spring, oh Spring! Azaleas

Oh Spring, oh Spring! Azaleas, originally uploaded by freestone.

Oh Spring, oh Spring! Azaleas
Yes, now march 11th, here in Tallahassee Florida, usa. Here, Spring begins near the middle of febuary and lasts until the middle of May. I have seen 80 degrees near the end of Febuary.

So here are the "obligory" flowers, one *must* take at least One photo of flowers, surely, this time of year.

Exact name unknown, probably there are 10,000+ hybrids of Azaleas, by now.

I had trouble bookmarking my most interesting Flickr Links, so I made this "photo" to place in a Set of its own, so that I could refer to these links, myself; I have now enough that someone else *might* be interested in seeing them too, so here they are, a constant Work-In-Progress, as I add more all of the time. Some "regulars" might not know of all of these!

Links I have found, for Flickr stuff, for weblogs, for photos and other interesting URL internet things.
I cannot bookmark, in a public library computer, so I will do some of that, here!
