Xmas in the plantation house

Xmas in the plantation house, originally uploaded by freestone.

Xmas in the plantation house
the Brokaw-McDougal house. An old plantation house that sits within the city of Tallahassee, florida.

I went inside, today, there seemed to be some kind of reception going on, 40 "blue-blooded" aristrocratic southern ladies, all wearing red dresses, just getting up from a presentation of some sort, having cookies, in the back room, I then stood here, in the only open room, as this park headquarters house, houses not only offices but a "living museam"
of rooms restored with period furniture of the middle 1800s. So here is a bit of underexposed living room of a 1880 plantation house Christmas.
There is a fireplace in each room, that is the heat. maybe 10 to 15 fireplaces in this house, a full time job for the servants to keep them all burning! no air conditioning either, in the tropic summers that last 6 months or more, over 100 days a year of 90 degrees or higher! Note the very very high ceilings with high windows that open to let out the hot air at the top.
